Tears of Joy

I stand near a stage

Marked out with balloons

Waiting to hear

What the children of Taichung

Have prepared for me

First the violin is played

Then a group of children

Move to the stage

Together they recite my poem

One Mind One Voice

They proudly say

In their Taiwanese/English voices

So beautiful each word sounds

As it reaches my ears then my soul

It is me who was not prepared

Overjoyed the tears just fall

Many times I will hear my poem

Recited around the world

But never will I forget

The Children of Taichung
