When a Possum takes control

          13/10/2003

Well I have finally moved to Pomona in the Noosa Shire, where I am sharing a house with Jo and a Possum!! I made sure I moved so I would be set up ready to write the newsletter last Wednesday.

But the possum had other ideas. The power safety switch kept cutting out so many times, I decided to not connect to the internet until we solved the problem. I only have one computer so not going to start playing Russian roulette with it.

After trying ourselves to work it out, through trial and error, it was time to bring in the experts, who informed us that a possum lived in the house long before we arrived.

We were well aware he or she was up there wearing very heavy boots at all hours of the night. The electrician tested all points and wires and even changed the safety switch, thinking that may have been the problem. A hour after he left the power was off again.

We are now pretty sure it is our possum causing a short in one of the power points. So today's the day the wildlife people come to relocate our furry friend.

Jo my flatmate said ........... possum.

I say thank you possum for finding the loose wire for us, before there is a fire!

So as you can see I am now back online, very glad to be here. Things are moving quickly and it sure is the right place for the Global Children's Alliance to be set up.

Remember I have been away from the Noosa Community since the early 90's and my work for the Noosa Regional Gallery goes back to the 80's.

I just knew that this was where I needed to be to give the Global Children's Alliance the best chance of success and make my job much easier.

I rang John Kelly from the Noosa Shire Council, our association was back in the 80's.I said over the phone that, I need someone from council to be on the Board when it is set up and would like it to be him. He said YES, even before he know what it was all about.

I also asked straight away where in Pomona do they have land available. I know in my heart that the Global Children's Alliance will have it's own home very quickly.

I think we will outgrown my bedroom very soon.

I have been getting the same wonderful response, from everyone I approach, so it says a lot for track record!! or maybe it's just the that I invite them into my bedroom that's doing it!!!!

As my week is now worked around looking after Caitlin on Wednesday. A wonderful adventure for both of us each week. Last week we made our first batch of biscuits together, at two going on three.

While we were watching a children's program on TV we watched them make shortbread biscuits which were twisted together forming patterns of two colours when baked.

I said to Caitlin "You watch to see what we need and when you finish your breakfast we will make them". She knew all the things we needed and even how to put one layer on top of the other and roll them together.

Granma was just needed to reach the high cupboard, cut with a knife and do the stove bit. Otherwise this two year old could have made them by herself.

I am sorry I didn't get a photo for you - both of us sitting on the kitchen floor - but we were having too much fun to think about cameras etc. You can picture it yourself anyway.

Children take in so much information around three years of age, far more then we oldies do. I love being around her when she is at her creative best.

So forgive me for changing the day the newsletter to Tuesday from now on.

Tomorrow I will send out this weeks newsletter, An Open Letter to Jane, please make sure you read it.

It is about someone who has made a lasting impression on me. I also know she will play a huge important roll in the future of the Global Children's Alliance. You will find out more about her tomorrow.

Have a nice day, I will inviting people to my bedroom full of HOPE.
