The Wealthist person I know

          28/10/2003

I have been in the Noosa Shire for only three weeks, but feel like I have never left. Word had trickled out that I am back and I am pleased to say. People are not saying

"Quick where do I hid - she is sure to want something or wants to give me a job"

No in fact it is the opposite people I have known from my past life here in the 70's 80's and early 90's are a bit older - but their spirit hasn't changed they are all still up to a challenge, helping a good cause and having lots of fun.

Like David Ashton who has stayed out of things for a number of years - but said I would be honoured to be part of this with you. Then took me out to meet a musician he felt should be included in GCA.

Like John Kelly from council who is giving space for meeting.

Like Ron Thomas who not only gave me the keys to scouts hall but long talk on what council can and can't do.

Like Mayor Bob Abbott, who when asked if he can be the person to present this project to council in November, said "What time is the meeting on Friday."

Already some of them are getting ahead of me. and I didn't have to even ask.

Like Meg Lawrence a well know media lady around town. Meg has agreed to be my PR person and today has me doing another radio interview.

As one of her other caps was setting up the Federation of the Arts, she has already suggested they hold the first fund raiser for me. And to top it off she has emailed a mate on the Isle of Pines ( you will have to search for it if you want to know were it is on the map) and we are already planning to take the HOPE project there next year.

That's just one person imagine what we can do when all these people I have invited to the meeting on Friday get started. In one word WOW.

Meg paid me a huge complement the other day, after visiting her beautiful three story townhouse with views of the sea - walking down to get into my poor old car that is now making weird sounds - she said "Kerry you are the wealthiest person I know"

Yes she is right I am wealthy because I am not trying to do this alone. I have this amazing network of good, hard working people now again willing to work to make a vision a reality.

It was important for me to return here - as the promise to Caitlin is - I will work the rest of my life to make it a better world for her and all children by the year 2015. That means setting something up that I know will continue to grow and expand long after I am gone. None of us know how long we will be here on this earth, so to be realistic - and not just a dreamer, it is important to make sure the vision will continue even without me.

The Alliance for the New Humanity is bedding down at the moment before the launch in December and I to an now laying the foundations for the Global Children's Alliance as I know together we can celebrate Caitlin's 15th Birthday in the year 2015m all knowing we have given her a better world.

This Friday at the Noosa Council we will be holding the first meeting of the working group for the Global Children's Alliance - called working for a very good reason :-)

I now have the keys to the Pomona Scouts Hall.

It is in need of some major repairs.

It is perfect for the Global Children's Alliance, not because of the building, but because of the surroundings.

In the heart of Pomona town- but a million miles away from hassle and bustle. It backs on to the forest where through the trees you can see the Mountain that made Pomona Famous.

Pomona is the Greek Goddess for Gardens and this is her part of the garden we wish to set up and grow in.

Some would look at the building and the amount of white ant damage and say - this is impossible - we best ask council for money to fix it, or pull in down and start again.

I look and say this is perfect for a community working bee , something that gives the community a project of rebuilding maybe in a fun filled weekend.

This is what track records and loyalty can do - something money can't buy - thank heavens for that.

A chance to show the community how easily things can be done when we work on the same vision together.

A chance for local children to see there is HOPE for their futures. Something badly needed in the area.

A chance for people to help if only in a small way by making the tea and coffee for the workers or by giving something that will be used and treasured.

A chance to see something built for children which has been laying idle for so long, become a place where children can see and know adults do want to give them a better future.

A chance to see the life come back into these amazing grounds. A chance to lay to rest the young girl who took her life under the old scouts building. A chance to let her know - I wish the Global Children's Alliance had been there where she needed us.

Below is how people can help, even by not attending meetings.

Peter Bycroft a former councillor during my time in the eighties when we all had a dream for a space in the Council Chambers a dream which is now the Noosa Regional Gallery.

Hi Kerry
Thanks for the email - it was good to catch up and to hear of your amazing energy and commitment to young people.

Vanessa (our office manager) has also just told me that she has been having difficulty finding a date where we can meet again. Unfortunately, at this time of year (actually it is probably all year!!) we are in our most chaotic workload period. I am also fully committed with frequent interstate travel, the Economic Board and my many other voluntary community activities (Youth, the Arts, Noosa Innovation Industries and voluntary lecturing at the University of Sunshine Coast).

As a result, I am happy to assist you in kind (e.g. a computer when we move office and any other items you might need) and moral and public support as and when needed. However, I will not be able to be actively involved in your project and am not available to meet or sit on your committee in the foreseeable future - I have many other fish to fry - although we are both preparing for the same meal!

I am delighted to see you back in Noosa and to witness your bountiful contribution to building a better world.

We need so many more people like you in this post-ideological world! Together I am hopeful that we will make a major difference for successive generations.

Best wishes - I am with you in spirit

regards
Peter

Like Peter everyone can help, in their own way. in the words of the saying used by our Alliance for the New Humanity

"A dream that I dream alone is but only a dream. But a dream that we dream together is reality” –Raul Seixas (Brazilian composer)
Have a nice day - I will finding a keyring for a set of keys, I don't think anyone or council will want to take back off me.
