The Boiling Frog
The war in Iraq has made me think about Evolution.
Notice we say War in Iraq like it is already part of our history.
We are all saying No War with Iraq. When did it become a War???
When the American's decided? When the UN sent in the inspectors? Maybe back around the 11th Sept 2001? Back to the Gulf War?
How far back do we have to go to find the event that has evolved to get us to the point we are at today. Have we just forgotten something or is what we hear or heard really the truth. How far back do the lies go? Have we all just been kidding ourselves???
Evolution has always fascinated me.
It started as a small child, I would lie on my bed after being at school for the day, (a catholic school.) Where I had been told I would be going to hell if I lied about my homework again. The truth was I lied about my homework to stop getting the cane- hadn't thought about hell.
I would lie on my bed and think all sorts of things:
How come
I can be bad and go to hell, while the Nun's can tell me about the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy and Father Christmas, read me stories that even I knew where not true. Tell me history I just didn't believe.
How come
I could just confess my sins, be sorry, say a few hail marys for lying about my homework - then the nun's must need those rosary beads to say lots of Hail Marys each day.
This made me lie there some more and think about all sorts of things.
How come
Indigenous Australian's (Living Treasures to me)had lived for over fourty thousand years in harmony with the Earth, long before Adam and Eve - When I was being told we began with Adam and Eve and a sin in a garden."
How come
They ( indigenous people) were not thought of as being humans - until someone taught them to be like us????
How come
Indigenous Australians could live in peace and not destroy the planet, but would not be going to heaven - When the people up the road who were always bashing their kids - but gave money to the church so was sure to be going to heaven - going by how well the were treated by the local priest and Nun's
How come
Indigenous people had their own culture which seem to work - have to be forced to take up ours? To stop them from going to hell?
I would lie on my bed a child of 7 and think about all sorts of things like this. It is good to take time by yourself to think quietly without anyone else putting their views in your head. You start to find your own view can be different to other people.
It was were I learnt to think outside the square.
I decided then at age 7
If indigenous people and all the animals and plants were not going to heaven- then neither was I, so I best make the most of my time on this Earth.
How come
This didn't turn me into a bad person??? - I was now surely a sinner??
I realised now that I had learnt certain values and morals from my parents. I knew what was right from wrong. I also had picked up all the skills that have got me through life- not from school, but from people like my two Grandmothers, who taught me how to cook and be creative. One also taught me it was okay for girls to be independent. I learnt the things I needed to know, they inspired me to want to learn. Many people over the years have inspired me to want to learn, not because I had to- but because I wanted to.
These things and my environment have made me what I am today. I have evolved into what I am. Even from that early Catholic upbringing. I have evolved and changed into what and where I am today. Without it I may never have questioned it.
One thing I have learnt is that if you don't have inner peace yourself and come to terms with who YOU are. Then you can't begin to fix the problems of the world.
Getting back to the Iraqi war and when did it all start. When is a lie a lie?
Or is it - that we just have forgotten what really is the truth. Believe me we have to go a long way back to the find the beginning!
If Daniel Quinn had been a Nun at my school things would have been very different!! Yes Daniel Quinn the one who wrote Ishmael.
In his book The Story of B there is one part "The Boiling Frog" which gives us more of the truth about the Iraqi war then anything we are being told.
Just before you go to read the Boiling Frog can I give you
The Bible Lesson
Bishop Desmond Tutu, of South Africa, is said to have said: "When the missionaries first came to Africa, they had the Bible and we had the land. They said, 'Let us pray.' We closed our eyes. When we opened them, the tables had been turned: We had the Bible and they had the land."
have a good day, I will as I lie on my bed and think some more. I know one thing- the whole world must start thinking differently!!
