Appeal
An appeal to Mr. George W. Bush, Mr. Tony Blair, Mr. Kofi A. Annan and all of us
This is an appeal from the depth of all hearts and from the noblest aspirations of humankind.
This is an appeal to ourselves, to our higher destiny that respects and celebrates all life upon the Earth.
This is an appeal to the media, who beat the drums of war and fan fears, ignoring the voices that call for reflection and peace and understanding, confusing us into believing that the only answer to conflicts and problems is war, that the only response to aggression is revenge.
This is an appeal to all, to see with the eye of the soul and feel the pain of the innocent victims of war.
This is an appeal for peace, reflection and understanding at this moment when the world, once again, seems to be inevitably drawn towards the abyss.
This is an appeal to the leaders of all nations, in particular the Governments of the United States and Great Britain, to forego unilateral military options against Iraq and to integrate their policymaking with international mechanisms, like the United Nations, which have been created by humankind at great cost, effort and suffering, and need to be strengthened for the peaceful solution of conflicts.
This is an appeal to these leaders not to exacerbate the lack of respect for life that already permeates the Middle East. There are children in New York, in Palestine, in Kashmir, in Iraq, in Israel. They are sacred expressions of being, heart-beating humanity, they cannot be ever dismissed as "collateral damage". They need to be saved and protected from the onslaught of hatred, greed and fear expressed through bombs, destruction and indifference.
This is an appeal to all nations and peoples to abandon the ways of war, to renounce the unending manufacturing of ever more sophisticated armaments and instruments of war, and to rearrange our priorities in order to build a world of peace, justice and compassion.
This is an appeal to all of us to give peace a chance because it is our only chance.
The undersigned, members of the Global Strategic Alliance for the New Humanity, born from the principles expounded in the Declaration of Puerto Rico of august 14, 2002, hereby Appeal:
