A Man of the Night

          25/11/2003

Pomona has again won another tidy town award.

I may just have discovered the reason why.

Saturday morning over a cup of tea and a date scone at the home of the Pomona Lions Club president Adele. Chatting to a couple of the community identities. Judy a stalwart around the place, working hard to get a extra building for the local community centre. Seems they were concerned I might be holding up their plans through council, or that I might be after funding they were thinking of trying for. I let her know they were wrong on two counts. One what we are doing - setting up a Peace Embassy will enhance their projects and their need for the extra building for the youth of the region. As far as funding goes - getting funds from a casino was not a place I would be applying or connect the name of the Peace Embassy and children to.

I didn't tell her a few months ago I turned down a nice business man who wanted to go into business with me- not because he wasn't nice, he is, but because at this present time he has an internet gambling site as part of his operation - while I maybe very poor, I still have lots of integrity.

Gambling or pubs for that matter are not something I would want my name or anything I an involved with associated wouldn't fit with my stand on indigenous issues where lots of their problems are grog related. As for gambling- it is not something I would promote as healthy for children - I am about promoting the Joy of Living which is not about material things at all. Joy from within, not Joy out of a bottle or a slot in a machine.

The sort of Joy I talk about don't have anything to do with money - you could get it being a man of the night.

Judy I am please to say, was reassured and offered the community centres resources to help us get the Peace Embassy, in fact she asked if we wanted to have a building added on to their plan - I declined that fine offer as the site I want is not anything to do with buildings - it is to do with the feeling children will get when they walk on the site - a feeling of PEACE. The building is not important - the feeling inside is.

The second person at the morning tea in the most beautiful bush setting was Doug a former Noosa Councillor - someone I didn't have a lot to do with in the 80's but we both knew what the other was up to.

After our chat, I regret we hadn't spent more time together in the early days as I know we would have and will work so well together.

Like lots of other people he is now getting ahead of me - he has a PEACE POLL that he thinks should be at the Peace Embassy - I do agree.

Doug also filled me in on lots of information about the Scout Hall as his sweat lies buried under the white ants decay. The front of the building used to be an old school, moved many years ago to the site. I will find out more about this school as I am sure it's history will be interesting.

He was unsure about the girl who hung herself under it but Judy knew about it and I intend finding out more as it is important to respect her choice of a place for death.

I regard it as a sacred site. I feel very deeply that she so desperately wanted and needed a Peace Embassy - it just is coming too late for her - or is it.

This girl I know nothing about has an important roll to play in what we are doing.

The back building was to be for the Girl Guides - somehow that didn't really get off the ground as the scouts movement worldwide started to decline.

Sad some would say - no just part of evolution. Without them this site may have become something completely different and not been available for the Peace Embassy who's time has come.

Doug then told me about a gentleman -an unsung hero of the town, who comes out at night and tidies the town.

This man would after the Pomona King of the Mountain race spend the night picking up the rubbish and papers made by the huge crowd. So when the volunteers including Doug would arrive, most of the mess was already taken care of.

This man would also go around putting out other peoples garbage bins when they forgot them.

This man would wash and sort the bottles left at the scouts hall, raising money for the local kindergarten, all done while others slept.

The reason is -he has cancer that has ravaged his face, this man who used to drive the school bus is so disfigured and sensitive to light he has become the man I hope to meet one night.

Have a nice day, I will looking forward to the nights in Pomona.

PS. after last weeks newsletter where Roberto referred to me as a force of nature

Jeremy in Korea who I look forward to meeting in early May when hopefully he will be out here for the OFFICIAL launch of the Peace Embassy and together we will work on a project based around his Peace Train project. Jeremy sent a couple of quotes

when the river is flowing so well people like to get their boats on and enjoy the ride and this one

Ryokan-: What in the heart of this old monk doth lie? A light breeze beneath the vast sky.

Thanks Jeremy I am sure the river will be flowing very well when you are here in May.

By the way I am sure things are just meant to be - when I came up with the idea of it being a Peace Embassy instead of Global Children's Alliance - to my shock, surprise and delight the domain address

www.peaceembassy.com was available - who would have thought this address amazing address would be available.

So instead of registering my old car I registered the domain name - ready for the Peace Embassy which will be set up as quickly as possible after I return from Puerto Rico launch of the Alliance for the New Humanity - Pomona will be the Australian Connection for this important urgent Alliance working for a better world for Caitlin and all children.

I can feel the breeze blowing across all the rivers of the world, giving peace to every child.

It just needs a few more people like the man of the night.
